tuulikannel: (Hikaru no go - Sai)
I've been a bit sick for over a week, though not badly enough that I could have stayed home from work, so life's been a little tiring. Haven't really had the energy to sit by the computer after work. And when the urge to write hit me last week, I started working on a different fic (though one related to this, but more of that after the chapter).
Anyways, here' finally the next chapter...

Alright, the seventh chapter! This has been a bit insane kind of week - lot's of work, one (surprise) post-doctoral party, and tomorrow friends are coming to visit, and it's the Chinese New Year, too. We're going to watch the celebration (yes, there is some even in Finland. And no, I'm not Chinese, in the case you were wondering.) Mmm, coming to think of it, I should have posted the previous chapter (with the festival of the snake) now, really. Anyways, Happy Year of the Snake, everyone! It starts tomorrow.

I had a little mistake in the previous chapter, saying Hikaru's twelve, when he's actually thirteen. (Or… most likely he is still really twelve, but the way they counted age in the Heian period he'd be thirteen now that the year has changed.) Fixed it now...

A note about the characters: there's a bunch in the fic that aren't in the manga, but don't worry about them. The one you should keep track of is Nobunori. I'm trying to keep track of him too. *frown* Slick guy, he totally wasn't at all honest with me about who he is when I started writing this fic. But anyway, the other OC's are mainly just a part of the setting. …except Akitada, of course. I'm not sure if he counts as an OC, though, but we know practically nothing about him, so… kinda.

A pretty quick update this time, for a couple of reasons: 1) I'm having many days off right now so I've got plenty of time (this will change in February, when I start doing full hours at work), and 2) this chapter... well, back when I wrote it during NaNo, I thought I might cut it off when the fic's ready. It didn't feel like a necessary part of the story – and maybe it isn't, but reading it through I decided it does serve some function in describing Hikaru's current state of mind … perhaps. It all comes from one single line Hikaru says in the sequel of this fic...

...and having said that, I just must add that writing a prequel really is a pain. Your hands are totally tied. Usually it's not a big deal if the characters don't agree to do exactly what you tell them, but with a prequel... they have to. I hope I'll manage to keep things consistent with the sequel (and I admit, I did make some little changes to it when this fic didn't work out completely like I thought. Very little, and I doubt people would even notice those things.) But anyway, I really can't recommend writing prequels.

Okay, I just had to write this tiny epilogue. You see, something struck me, about the timing, and... I couldn't resist.

tuulikannel: (Hikaru no go - Sai)
Alright! Here comes my nano novel 2012 - that is, that Heian fic prequel I've been writing. This first chapter’s pretty Hikaru-centric, but this fic is mainly about Sai’s life. Of course, Hikaru will be an important part of it. No romance of any kind in this one, btw, at least not in these first 70k I’ve written (and most likely not in the rest either). Yeah... this is going to be long. And pretty slow-moving too, consider yourself warned.

The title's pretty much as cliché as you can get with a Heian age story. The last chapter of The Tale of Genji is called "Bridge of Dreams", which seems to refer to life, or so I've understood. Anyway, it's a better title than The Prequel of the Untitled Heian Fic, I guess...

Without further ado, let's get started.

You know... I just started to wonder... if the Bon festival lasts for three days, how many nights are there? But, overall, it doesn't matter. My first night here was the one that started after the first day of the festival.

And another thing I realized: although Bon apparently most commonly takes place in August (when it would coincide with the pro test) of course Kanto area (including Tokyo) has to be different and have Bon in July. Which means that the pro test isn’t yet on. Now, they might (or might not) already have had the prelims, though, so I just decided that that’s the case. Whatever. Who cares, really? (Except me...)

Anyway, without further ado, here's the next part: Second Night )

Fanfic time. I... umm. Remember that little ficlet I wrote for Blind Go once, titled Music? About Hikaru's mom hearing strange things? I mentioned there that it was based on this bigger plot bunny I've got - one I would never write. Eh. Never say never? I should know myself better. Most of my plot bunnies will eventually be written, especially if they're weird.

So. A Hikago fic, starring Sai and Mitsuko. And, umm, yeah. It really will be Sai/Mitsuko~ish, in the end. More so, if I really write those two more chapters for this that I'm thinking about. For now, here you are. )

I wrote this at the Dreamwidth Hikago community, at the Isumi Team Battle Drabble Post, from Onkoona's prompt "Historical AU – Samurai Isumi writes his death poem, before going off into battle on a lost cause."

Characters: Shinichirou Isumi (naturally), and Hikaru "Toyotomi Hideyoshi" Shindou.
No warnings except for bad poetry. 1025 words.

Yes, I’m well aware that there is very, very little (i.e. nothing) connecting Hikaru no Go and Princess Tutu... but why should I let that stop me?

Summary: Chapter of the Ghost. During a trip to Europe, Hikaru and Sai visit a small town in which impossible things can – and do – happen.

Characters: Hikaru and Sai, (and Ahiru and Fakir from Princess Tutu, but this is Hikago centric.)

There are some possible spoilers concerning Princess Tutu, but nothing big. Knowledge of that series helps, but it's not obligatory... You'll just be as confused as Hikaru is, is all. ^^

Word count: Almost 10k.

Language note: Hikaru and Sai speak, naturally, Japanese, and everyone else speaks German.

A bunch of Blade of the Immortal drabbles, most of them exactly 100 words. No spoilers – in fact most of these seem to take place before the start of the series.

…after using the rather obvious title “what's in a name” for the first one, I kind of got stuck using Shakespearean quotes as titles. I used the overall title “Silences” just cause silence seems to be part of many of these... now I kinda want to change it to “The Rest is Silence” but. Won't. ^^

No warnings, really.

And so the fic has reached its end, and it's still without a title. In fact, I haven't even been thinking about the title anymore – The Untitled Heian Fic has become the title in my mind. Like, “What do you mean it has no title? It's called The Unt... oh. Yeah.” xD If anyone has title suggestions, I'm listening.

Just for fun, here's a short bit from Sei Shonagon's Pillow Book. Not behind the lj-cut, cause this isn't really connected to the fic (just to Hikaru's handwriting) so those not reading the fic can read it too (Nobutsune is a courtier with really bad handwriting):

One day when Nobutsune was serving as Intendant in the Office of Palace Works he sent a sketch to one of the craftsmen explaining how a certain piece of work should be done. 'Kindly execute it in this fashion,' he added in Chinese characters. I happened to notice the piece of paper and it was the most preposterous writing I had ever seen. Next to his message I wrote, 'If you do the work in this fashion, it will certainly turn out strangely.' The document found its way to the Imperial apartments and everyone who saw it was greatly amused – except, of course, Nobutsune, who was furious and after this held a grudge against me.
